Developers at the Paris-based game company Spiders have initiated a labor action. This marks the second occasion within the year that the staff has openly criticized leadership for not responding adequately to their demands, indicating that a more significant response may now be necessary.
An openly shared letter available through the SJTV union (as reported by Gamesindustry.biz) articulates that Spiders is seeking more equitable compensation, betterment of workplace atmosphere, and concerted efforts to ensure equal pay across the board.

"With disappointment, we take the step of voicing our concerns publicly, in the aspiration that it will motivate the executives to operate with the wellbeing of their workforce and the entity as a priority," state the Spiders' spokespersons in the disclosed document. "In 2020, Spiders had a team of 40 paid members and focused on creating a single game.

Currently, the workforce has expanded significantly. Apprehensions over the challenging initiation of a supplementary production process and the studio's inaugural trial with early access for Greedfall 2—both implemented unilaterally without inclusive dialogue—have intensified the prevailing feeling of unease."

The document also indicates that the development of Greedfall 2 is experiencing turbulence, with numerous team members facing exhaustion from overwork. It is hoped that the Spiders team will secure their needs, as the current state of affairs at the studio reportedly shows signs of disorder.

UPDATE: In their response to these claims via a press statement, Spiders countered:

"The Syndicat des Travailleurs (ses) du Jeu Vidéo has spread public claims regarding Spiders' work environment. The erroneous and potentially vilifying statements by the STJV do not mirror the actual professional experience within our company and represent a challenge to the good name of our studio, whose members are earnestly engaged in delivering high-caliber games and are fervently working on the Early Access phase of GreedFall 2."

In this announcement, Spiders revealed their intention to pursue amicable solutions to any grievances the staff may express, including a forthcoming dialogue with an employee delegation.

"At Spiders, the employees are the core of our operations, and we are steadfast in fostering and preserving a welcoming and exciting work culture where everyone's abilities can thrive and in which we collectively take pride," the company's statement concluded.
