As speculation builds around the release of a new PlayStation console, Sony has quietly raised the price of its popular DualSense controller. This price adjustment comes just ahead of the expected announcement of the PS5 Pro during an upcoming technical presentation on September 10, which will be led by Mark Cerny.

Although Sony has not officially confirmed the PS5 Pro, there are growing reports suggesting its release is imminent. In the meantime, the price of the standard DualSense Wireless Controller has increased. According to reports from Wario64 on Twitter, the price has risen from $69.99 to $74.99. This price hike has been observed across several major retailers, including GameStop and the PlayStation Direct website.

In addition to the standard controller, special edition color options such as Sterling Silver, Cobalt Blue, and Volcanic Red have also seen a price increase. These variants, which were previously priced at $74.99, are now being sold for $79.99. The price changes appear to be in effect at multiple retailers, suggesting this is not an isolated occurrence but a broader adjustment across the market.

Interestingly, while the standard and special edition DualSense controllers have seen a price bump, Sony’s more advanced DualSense Edge controller remains unchanged. The DualSense Edge, which offers additional features and customization options, continues to retail at $199.99. Similarly, the price of the DualSense Charging Station, used to recharge the controllers, has stayed stable at $29.99.

The price increase has not been limited to the U.S. market. In the U.K., the standard color DualSense controller has also seen a rise in price, going from £59.99 to £64.99 on the PlayStation Direct website. However, U.K. consumers may still find the controller at its original price on other platforms such as Amazon, though this may change soon. For those looking to purchase a controller in the U.K., it might be worth acting quickly before these adjustments take full effect across all retailers.

This unannounced price hike has caught many consumers off guard, especially given that Sony has not yet issued any formal communication regarding the increase. With the PS5 Technical Presentation scheduled for tomorrow, many are speculating that Sony may address this pricing shift during the event, though the primary focus is expected to be on the PS5 Pro.

Sony's decision to raise prices without prior notice has left some fans questioning the timing, particularly as excitement grows around the potential release of a new console. Whether this price change is linked to production costs, inflation, or other market factors remains to be seen, but many are eager to see if Sony will offer any explanation or clarification during their upcoming presentation.
