Xbox E3: Things that Delighted and Disappointed
E3 2019 by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) is one of the most popular and significant events in the gaming industry. People around the world are waiting for it to discover new cutting-edge games, news, and technologies. And this year Microsoft made several interesting announcements including next-generation Xbox – Project Scarlett, new Elite controller, releases dates with trailers for the most anticipated games like Halo Infinite and Gears 5, and more. But at the same time, its presentation had a number of lowlights. Below we have compiled all the pros and cons from the Xbox showcase on E3 2019.
Highlight 1: New Console – Project Scarlett
This project is definitely a highlight. In June 2019 Microsoft officially announced the new successor to the Xbox One – Project Scarlett. Some of the features:
• 8K gaming support;
• 120fps framerates in games;
• Ray-tracing.
The project is expected to launch in 2020 holiday season. Obviously, it will be one of the most incredible and notable events in the gaming industry.
Highlight 2: New Cloud Gaming Service – xCloud
On Xbox E3, Microsoft unveiled not only the upcoming release of new hardware but also the launching of a new cloud gaming service – xCloud. It will be available in October 2019. With this tool, you can easily ‘turn your Xbox One into your own personal and free xCloud server’ as Phil Spencer, Xbox head, said.
Highlight 3: Release Dates of Cyberpunk 2077 and Gears 5
Cyberpunk 2077 and Gears 5 are one of the Xbox’s biggest games. Finally, Microsoft announced their launch dates. The first one will be available for playing on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on April,16. Cyberpunk 2077 is a real gift for those who like a role-playing video game from the first-person perspective. The players can customize the characters’ sex, hairstyles, face, body type, body modifications, background, and clothing. Moreover, another surprise from the Cyberpunk 2077 developers team is that the famous actor Keanu Reeves will be starring in the game!
As for Gears 5, you can play this game earlier - on September 10. It is referred to as a third-person shooter video game. Gears 5 will have 5 thrilling modes where you need to help Kait Diaz “to uncover her connection to the enemy and discover the true danger to Sera – herself”.
Highlight 4: The Elite Controller Comes Back
On June 9, Microsoft announced about upcoming updating for the Xbox Elite controller. This series “features over 30 new ways to play like a pro, up to 40 hours of rechargeable battery life, and limitless customization with the Xbox Accessories app”. Sounds incredible, isn’t it?
Lowlight 1: No Gameplay for Halo Infinite
Halo Infinite is another one of the anticipated games which is referred to a first-person shooter video genre. The game is developed by 343 Industries, so all people expected to hear its launch date and gameplay during the event. Unfortunately, Halo Infinite won’t be out until late next year. It is scheduled to be released only in Q4 2020. Why? The developers decided to make the upcoming sequel available for the Scarlett at launch. Also, the game’s trailer reacquainted us with Master Chief in a cinematic video, instead of showing a glimpse of its multiplayer.
Lowlight 2: Disappointment About Bleeding Edge
Do you remember Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice? The game release was accompanied by a crushing success and a lot of players like it. Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice has a spectacular story, high-quality graphics, and excellent controllers. So when Ninja Theory, game’s developer, announced the release of a Bleeding Edge, all gaming community was expecting to see something even better than Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. Unfortunately, according to the game’s trailer, it was nothing that will immediately grip you. The trailer shows a number of bizarre characters that fight in arenas in a near-future dystopia. It is noticeable that these strangers have extravagantly stylish weapons, both ranged and melee. As far as we understand, Bleeding Edge is a competitive, team-based multiplayer game.
Lowlight 3: Too few Games Exclusives
For now, the most notable releases for Xbox are Halo Infinite and Gears 5. But, it is obvious, that impatient gaming community wants to see more of such major projects in the work exclusive to Xbox. Maybe, in the future, Microsoft will develop more interesting high-quality games, but now it is noticeable that the company throws all the strength for the Project Scarlett and the next console generation preparation.
